Who are we ? and what do we do?

Jugendkulturarbeit e.V. is an association which has been in existence since 1995. In the field of youth culture, it sees itself as a special interest group, an umbrella organisation and a promotion agency. It deals with projects from the areas of dance, theatre, the arts and music. In addition to assisting external projects financially, Jugendkulturarbeit e.V. also develops projects of its own.
The association tries to recruit mainly members, who are in their teens, since for them it ought to function as a forum to safeguard and publicise their cultural interests.
The special interest group and the umbrella organisation are comprised of up to 200 members, children, youth and adults. Both host- and sending project will be located at the office of Jugendkulturarbeit e.V. Resourced with a staff of two, the office will be located at the centre of the three Oldenburg districts Donnerschwee, Nadorst and Ohmstede.

What could we offer to our volunteers?

We will offer the young people an introductory course in German and a training course in social competences and then, by making use of our network, we will try and place them into different projects in the fields of education, sports, or leisure time in our urban district.
The focal points of the volunteers' activities is to work with children and youth in cultural work with a school or independently, in the fields of theatre, music and possible sports
Aside from working in the fields of sports, music, and theatre, the volunteers will mainly work in developing new projekts and assist in housekeeping for the International Youth Projecthouse (IJP : internationales Jugendprojektehaus)
First and formeost the volunteers will take part in preparing and executing international programmes of Jugendkulturarbeit e.V.
We will organise excursions into the Oldenburg surroundings, which will give the volunteers the opportunity to learn something about the hinstory, the economy, and the nature of our region.

What are we expecting from them?

The volunteers should show interest in and an affinity towards the following topics: sports, artistic gymnastics, theatre, youth-centred cultural work, graphic arts, media work and management. Most important, however, is delight in working with children and young people.
Therefore we primarily address sending organisations from the fields of artistry, youth-centred cultural work, theatre and sports.

Accomodation: the volunteers will be hosted in our "Volonteers´house", a building which is just next to IJP (old ex-militarian building) and has different rooms and facilities for young volunteers. WI-FI, single-rooms (3 of them have their own bathroom and shower), kitchen, party room, wash-mashine, bycicle.

Pocket money and food money : each volunteer gets 290 Euros per months, which includes 105 as pocket money and the rest for the the food directly on his/her free bank account by LzO (Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg). The amount is calculated for the whole year (normal period for a voluntary service by Jugendkulturarbeit e.V.). The volunteers are invited during international exchanges or special events to profit from our mensa, so they will receive directly the food, prepared from our Chef Micheal.

Insurance: the official insurance for EVS/EFD is Axa. Prepeare all documents for the insurance and coordinate and help the volunteers during the whole period of volunteering is a a specific task from Sending organisation.

When and where apply?

We usually apply very soon for our international volunteers for 2 main reasons:

- it takes much time to prepare all documents and to fill together (with the sending organization and the candidate) the application to be sent to German National agency.

- The project requires specific motivated candidates and it is very important for Jugendkulturarbeit e.V. to choose the right ones. Some basic german knowledge is required, because the responsibility for the work will be given since the first days. The children and the young people are not able often to express their opinions and thoughts in english. It would be too hard for a person who never studied German to get into the project.

1 vacancy for the project is still open (deadline 15th January 2012):
